I know why I love what I do. Government contracts law is a great area of the law and it is closely tied to our nation's history. The acquisition system's evolution reflects our nation's development and it reflects our social and economic policies as well as our political challenges.
In December 2013 I retired after over 26 great years with Raytheon (Raytheon had acquired Hughes in 1997). Raytheon and I continued to work together because I was consultant to Raytheon until February 2015. At that time, I had the privilege of joining a firm that I have known and respected for over three decades -- Steptoe & Johnson.
MISSION STATEMENT
My mission statement is to add value to my clients by offering sound solutions to their legal challenges.
Further, in the government contracting, intelligence, and national security areas, we need to consider the beneficiaries of our work -- the public, the warfighters, and the intelligence community. Those of us who work in government contracting have a special responsibility and we must operate within and protect a procurement system that should strive to ensure integrity in awarding and in performing contracts.
Practicing law in this area for over three decades has provided me with important lessons. I learned the importance of timely communication, candid answers, the need to be a good listener, and the value of asking questions. I understand client time constraints and the need to avoid surprises. My experience taught me that clients seek more than just a summary of the law from their lawyer They want a solution in order to address the challenge in front of them.
