What I Do:
I help regular people protect their present and plan for their future by offering individually tailored estate plans and zealous criminal defense services.
Who I am:
I am an Okie, born and raised.
I grew up in what was at the time the small community of Newcastle. I played football and basketball. I hunted and fished. I learned the Oklahoma work ethic.
I’m the oldest child of two hardworking parents. My mom was raised in the small northwest Oklahoma farming community of Cherokee. My dad, though born in Arizona, grew up in the shadows of the Arbuckle Mountains. My parents taught my brother and me the value of education (they were both schoolteachers at one time), to deliver on our word, and most importantly, to be loyal to our family, friends, and community.
In the summers, I earned money mowing lawns for my grandfather or picking tomatoes and onions from his garden. In the fall I played football, but I made time for quail and pheasant hunting with my dad. After school in the spring, my friends and I could most often be found at a local farm pond trying to hook a spawning bass or a mess of crappie. My Oklahoma childhood taught me to be thoughtful, caring, resilient, and resourceful. I’ve carried these lessons with me, and they are at the heart of my legal practice today.
I attended college at Oklahoma State University. I not only earned a degree in philosophy, but I made many life-long friends. Most importantly, Stillwater is where I met my wife of 20 years. While my college philosophy professors may not have prepared me for a lucrative post-graduation career, they did teach me valuable lessons in critical thinking and problem-solving. These lessons have served me well and allowed me to serve the needs of my legal clients throughout my career.
I moved to Kansas to attend law school, and after graduating with my JD, I spent 17 years in Wichita honing my legal skills while serving clients throughout Kansas. My wife, Amber, and I grew to love Kansas, but we always knew our hearts were in Oklahoma. That’s why in 2022 we decided to come home. Oklahoma is our home, and we look forward to spending more time with our family and friends, and to serving the community that has given so much to us.
Career Achievements:
My clients have trusted me to represent their needs in a wide range of matters in local, state, and federal courts throughout Kansas, as well as several other states. I have argued cases in both state and federal courts, including the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. I have taken on state and federal government agencies, and I won cases for clients at all stages of litigation, from investigations to jury verdicts.
I have written and presented on a range of legal issues from the use and misuse of scientific evidence to various constitutional issues, to the innovative use of technology by lawyers. I am a long-standing member of several local, state, and national associations, and I served a four-year term as the chair of the Wichita Bar Association’s Criminal Practice Committee.
I have been recognized by my peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America, and I was named a 2022 lawyer of the year in Wichita, Kansas, and a 2023 Lawyer of the Year in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
My greatest accomplishment, however, is having so many former clients who think of me as a friend or family member. No courtroom victories or professional awards will ever take the place of a handshake, hug, or simple thank you note from a happy client. I share with my clients their fears and uncertainties, but also their hopes and dreams. Nothing will ever bring me more professional joy than seeing those hopes and dreams come true.
Who I Help:
I help individuals and families address legal needs that are a source of fear, stress, doubt, and anxiety in their lives.
