Mr. Haley, a GM retiree and veteran, used a heat gun to defrost frozen pipes. While he and his wife were watching television, she saw smoke in the kitchen. They survived the fire but their insurance ... company accused them of spreading gasoline throughout their home and setting it on fire when it was apparent the fire was accidentally caused by the heat gun. Farm Bureau accused them of fraud due to inconsistencies in their numerous statements. The jury found in their favor. The verdict was affirmed by the Michigan Court of Appeals.
