Most abusive lawyer I’ve ever talked to. I want my money back!

Stay away from Carl Hopkins! Most unprofessional lawyer I have ever encountered. Choosing Carl Hopkins to handle my bankruptcy case was a massive mistake. He showed absolutely zero empathy or consideration for our financial situation. From the start, it was clear he didn’t care about helping us—he j...ust wanted us to blindly sign the paperwork and get us out of the way. When I started asking basic, reasonable questions about our case, he completely lost his temper. He was incredibly dismissive, acting like a spoiled child who wasn't getting his way. At one point, he seemed more concerned about his office TV not working correctly than answering any of our questions. It escalated to an unbelievable level when he snapped and told me to—and I quote—"get the f**k out of his office." Even as I was gathering my things to leave, he continued to yell at me and threatened to call the police. I literally did nothing but ask questions about the case I am paying him to handle. I already paid him a $500 retainer, which I assume is gone, but I will never step foot in his office again. Save yourself the money, time, and extreme disrespect. Do not use this guy.

Unresponsive

Do not hire Carl! I have never worked with someone who is so unresponsive! I would send emails and leave phone messages and would wait weeks for a response. Once he responded he seemed rushed and was often time condescending. I was consistently given misinformation. If I could give less than 1 star I... would.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2011.

Caution issued in AR, 2011

updated on 08/13/2014

A caution means that an attorney did something wrong, but may still practice law. The attorney was cautioned in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Carl’s comment:

“This disciplinary action took place after I had been in a business relationship with an unethical attorney. At the time I had no idea that he was unscrupulous. My business relationship with him lasted only 7 months. He eventually lost his license to practice as an attorney. I have filed over 3000 bankruptcy cases and over 5000 total cases.”
