Chambers-Castanes v. King County, 100 Wn.2d 275, 669 P.2d 451, 39 A.L.R. 4th 671
Jan 01, 1986OUTCOME: favorable settlement, after appeal
Jim and his wife, Steve-Ann, were stopped in traffic when drunken passengers from a truck went to Jim's car and assaulted him. The driver of the truck then drove off, without the passengers. Jim's wife ... called 911 for help, as did 10 others. Police failed to arrive for 1-1/2 hours, as bystanders kept a lookout. Night fell. The assailants crept away in the dark. The police then showed up. Jim and Steve-Ann's lawsuit was dismissed. The WA Supreme Court gave Jim and his wife, Steve-Anne, a precedent setting legal victory. Finally, King County settled, rather than go to trial.
