Mr. M.
N/AOUTCOME:
Mr. M is just an ordinary working class guy. He doesn’t have a large fortune to protect, but does have his 2 wonderful children. Mr. M had lost his wife to cancer in the past year and was worried a ... bout what would happen to his two young children if something happened to him. Mr. M. doesn’t have a dangerous job or health issues of his own. But, worry nagged at him day and night about his children and their future. Mr. M came into the office, with his two children and expressed his worry and frustration to Gary DeWitt. Gary sat with him and worked through all his issues and came up with a plan that would assure his children would have a place to live, money for education, and a bright future if something happened to Mr. M. In this case, because his children were 10 and 12 years old, the decision was made to have a trust based plan. But more than just a trust, Mr. M. would also be getting a durable power of attorney, healthcare power of attorney, HIPAA Waiver (Medical Information Waiver), and a Living Will. All the documents were customized to his wishes. The trust was customized not only for the protection of his assets, but to assure that his children would have access to money they need. Both of Mr. M’s children are very bright and are college bound. The trust was further customized to make sure money would be spent on education, room, and board by keeping it out of the children’s hands and paying the institution, landlord, and utilities directly while they were getting an education. He knew when the work was finished that his children would have somebody he knows, likes, and trusts to look after them and over the money that was set aside for their future. At the end of the process, Mr. M was relieved to have a plan in place that met all his goals. Furthermore Mr. M’s worry evaporated and he wasn’t living with the feelings of regret of not getting his plan done. He is sleeping better at night knowing that he has done everything he can do for his family.
