Completely unacceptable

I was referred to this attorney by 2 very credible friends. The initial meeting with Mr. Emerson was good, but once a retainer was paid, he was unacceptably inefficient, resulting in failure to submit required documentation to the court, which created a 6 month delay that (I learned after I hired ne...w attorneys) should have only taken approximately 5 days. He wouldn't return calls for weeks and many, even months. This was my first time to hire an attorney, so I did not know what to expect. I was patient, thinking "this is just how the legal system works." However, after 10 months and still no progress, I released Mr. Emerson as our attorney and hired another attorney. We were advised by new counsel that Mr. Emerson had grossly neglected his responsibilities to me and that I clearly had cause for a malpractice suit. I did not pursue a malpractice complaint; however, if I had not been focusing my attention and finances on my case for four years, I certainly would have, as clear cause was indisputable.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
