Two automobile industry companies, Calcar, Inc. and American Calcar, Inc., accused The California Cars Initiative, a non-profit environmental advocacy organization, of trademark infringement for using ... the CalCars nickname and the calcars.org domain name. After very contentious discovery battles and competing summary judgment motions, Judge Guilford of the United States Central California District Court sided in favor of The California Cars Initiative. In his ruling, Judge Guilford held that there was no likelihood of confusion between the plaintiffs’ mark and defendants’ use of CalCars or calcars.org.
