DeVonna M. Ponthieu

I was born in Victoria, TX in d to Baton Rouge when I was 14 year old with my mom when she left my dad.  So, I know the impact a divorce can have on a family.  I married my husband in ed  married to him till he died in 2011.  I started law school in 1998 (I was 38 years old, so definitely a non-traditional student).  After graduating from LSU Law School, I took the bar exam and became licensed to practice law in 2002. 

In 2004, my husband and I decided to adopt two wonderful boys.  While it has been difficult at times, I am thankful to God that I have these two boys.  In 2011, my husband died in an automobile accident.  Since then I have been a single mom.

I attend Walker Baptist Church.

I was an assistant public defender for seven years until the budget cuts got me laid off.  Because of that experience, I know the criminal law very well.  In that time, I handled all types of felony cases (such as 2nd degree murder, aggravated rape, kidnapping, purse snatching, felony theft, possesion of schedule I, II, III and IV)  as well as misdemeanors such as possession of marijuana, DWI, theft, etc.
