While a patient was under the care of his medical providers, he developed a bacterial infection at the site of his catheter because the catheter was not properly maintained by his doctors. Once the inf ... ection developed, the doctors overlooked the obvious signs of the infection. The patient developed sepsis and eventually died due to the doctor's negligence. After a seven-day jury trial, a Baltimore City jury ruled the doctors and the hospital were negligent and responsible for the patient's avoidable death, and awarded the Plaintiff $3.5 million.

The University of Maryland Medical System was ordered by a Baltimore City jury verdict to pay $3 million for committing medical malpractice during the delivery of a baby girl. On September 5, 2014, af ... ter a two-week trial, the verdict was rendered in the Plaintiff's favor. The obstetricians acted negligently by not conducting a cesarean delivery (against the mother's request) and pulling excessively on the baby's head, while trying to release a shoulder dystocia (a stuck shoulder), during the delivery. As a result of the negligence, the baby is permanently paralyzed in her arm due to nerve damage.

OUTCOME: $5.36 million

Mr. Berger developed colon cancer and died because his doctor negligently failed to order timely cancer screening during the course of 16 years. Dr. Chucker failed to perform proper colon cancer screen ... ing as laid out in guidelines from national health organizations. Instead, Dr. Chucker only did limited testing for colon cancer, despite the fact that Mr. Berger was at a higher risk after he turned 50. Dr. Chucker also failed to order a colonoscopy on several occasions when the standards of care required him to do so. After one day of deliberations, on June 21, 2012, a District of Columbia jury returned a verdict for Mr. Berger's estate and his widow for $5.36 million.
