Joseph R Joy III

     For almost 40 years, Joseph "Buzzy" Joy has been practicing plaintiff personal injury law and bringing to trial those cases where a reasonable settlement offer was not given by the defendant insurance company.  Mr. Joy's trial record is exemplary in that he has received million and multi million dollar jury verdicts in medical malpractice and maritime accidents. 

     Mr. Joy has also been able to settle cases for well over $1,000,000 involving 18-wheelers, car accidents and environmental damage caused by oil companies.

     Mr. Joy is one of the only attorneys known in the United States to have successfully sued a doctor retained by the defendant insurance company to perform an insurance evaluation causing injury to Mr. Joy's client.  This physician was sued and brought to court and a jury returned over a $1,000,000 judgment in favor of Mr. Joy's client due to the negligent evaluation caused by the insurance doctor in delaying surgery and terminating longshore benefits.  This is the first and only cae of its kind.  In fact Mr. Joy was interviewed by Date Line 20/20 for this accomplishment.

  Mr. Joy is also believed to have been the first attorney to successfully represent a Jones Act seaman when he picked up 135 pounds and injured his back.  The Court found that 135 pounds was too much for a seaman to handle alone and therefore, set legal precedence that if a seaman if injured while lifting 135 pounds or more alone, there will be Jones Act negligence and unseaworthiness.
