I have been an attorney for over ten years, but law wasn’t my first career. After dropping out of high school and obtaining a GED, I worked as a certified EMT and paramedic for years. Every day was unique, with different problems to solve, and I got to help people who were in a crisis, often on the worst day of their lives. I found that career to be tough and stressful, but very rewarding. Interestingly, that job turned out to be a great preparation for a career in law.
After two injuries that ended my career as a paramedic, I decided to regroup and see what I could do to keep helping people. I was very fortunate to have several meaningful experiences during college and graduate school, which continued to shape who I am today. While in college I had the opportunity to study in Africa for several weeks. I then attended graduate school in Europe, and I met and learned from people from all over the world.
The academic programs taught me a lot, but just as valuable was getting to experience new environments and different perspectives. We may have different lives and backgrounds, but everyone deserves dignity, security, and respect.
I carried that knowledge into my legal career. I started out in criminal law, once again helping clients through potentially life-changing crises. I moved into civil defense for the opportunity to gain more courtroom experience and to expand my legal knowledge and skills. One of the most important things I learned from that work was how easily a lack of clarity can lead to conflict, and how carefully drafted documents can prevent it. As a litigator, I became a partner at two national law firms, including the Local Office Managing Partner at one of them.
While I enjoyed the challenge of trial work, I found that I really wanted to get back to my roots: helping people through difficult times, and when possible, helping them avoid a crisis in the first place. Everything I’ve experienced so far has brought me to Aspen Estate Planning so I could do just that. The most satisfying thing about my work here is knowing that my clients and their families are well-protected and prepared for whatever the future holds.
I enjoy getting to really know my clients and developing a relationship with them. I know dealing with estate and succession issues can be stressful; it’s important to me to put my clients at ease so the planning process feels like a relief, not added pressure. I want them to feel confident about the work we do together, and comfortable enough to call me at any time with questions.
When I’m not collaborating with my clients, you may be able to find me doing pro bono work, spending time with my wife and our two rescue pugs, or curating my extensive bow tie collection.

Amazing Guy!
Nick has been absolutely amazing to deal with! His professional approach with personal service was such a pleasant surprise when we started dealing with him. He gave us top notch representation throughout the entire process and went the extra mile to ensure that our best interests were protected and ...
"I endorse this lawyer. NIck is a great attorney who has helped our law firm out many times on legal issues. He is very well educated and knows the law. I would completely trust him to handle my case."
"Nick is a wonderful attorney and I have the privilege of working in the same office building. While we are not with the same firm, we work in the same fields (personal injury, criminal defense, DWI/traffic) and are constantly discussing these legal issues. Nick has an outstanding work ethic and has a great working knowledge of the current law. If I have any questions or concerns regarding the law I have no problem asking him on his input. On a personal level, Nick is well respected and well thought of by the Judges he has practiced in front of and he has a great natural instinct for working a courtroom. Most importantly, Nick makes his clients his top priority. He is always making sure his client's needs are being met and they are constantly being updated on their case. He goes above and beyond to meet and exceed his client's expectations. His clients are lucky to have him as an attorney and I'm lucky to have the pleasure to work in the same office building with him!"
