Omar K. Mason joined Montgomery Barnett’s New Orleans office in the fall of 2012. Mr. Mason is a native New Orleanian. After graduating from Louisiana State University in 1996, he attended and obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans. He began his law practice with Carter & Cates in 1999 where he focused primarily on plaintiff personal injury matters, class actions and complex litigation. While at Carter & Cates, Mr. Mason was part of the Plaintiffs trial team, representing a class of Louisiana smokers and former smokers in tobacco class action litigation. He later joined Lynn Luker & Associates, L.L.C. in 2003, representing business clients in the gaming industry and defending others against asbestos claims.
As a result of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Mr. Mason relocated to Houston, Texas where he practiced for over six years with the law firm Johnson DeLuca Kurisky & Gould, P.C., representing business clients in the automobile sales industry as well as banking institutions and small businesses in litigation. Realizing the strong potential and need for economic and social growth in his hometown, New Orleans, Mr. Mason and his family returned to the city in the early fall of 2012.
Mr. Mason is licensed to practice and has actively practiced law in the State of Louisiana for 15 years and in the State of Texas for over 8 years. He is a member in good standing of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the National Bar Association, the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, the Tulane University Inn of Court, the New Orleans Bar Association, the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Louisiana and Texas.
Mr. Mason was a member of the 2013 inaugural class of the Collaborative Bar Leadership Academy, a joint program of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the National Native American Bar Association and the National Asian Pacific Bar Association, designed to promote diversity in leadership of the various bar associations. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Tulane University Law School Trial Advocacy Program and has served on the faculty for the Tulane University Law School Winter Intercession Civil Litigation Pre-Trial Bootcamp.
Mr. Mason’s practice with Montgomery Barnett is a conglomerate of the wide range of areas in which he has gained invaluable legal experience in his nearly 14 years as a civil litigator. He counsels his business clients, large and small, on risk management and the avoidable pitfalls of running a business, in an attempt to save them the time and expense of litigation. However, when litigation ensues, he works tirelessly to help his clients navigate the sometimes rough terrain of legal proceedings.
Mr. Mason has always been active in his community, and throughout his life he has served in various leadership capacities. From being head drum major of the McDonogh #35 Senior High School Marching Band, to serving as President of the Sigma Lambda (Alumni) Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., to being National Advocate (chief legal advisor) of the Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. (a Fraternal Benefit Society of the Roman Catholic Church), Mr. Mason is a proven leader. Now, he spends the majority of his time leading his clients down the path to making sound, well-informed business decisions, before, during and after litigation.
