Ericka Schexnayder Brignac

I hired Ms. Brignac to represent me in my divorce case in August 2022. Ms. Brignac informed me of several things that I was entitled to from my ex-husband; however, she never delivered on anything. The case sat for two months with no communication from Brignac. I had to reach out to her several times... for updates on my case; she mostly ignored me. In February 2023 my ex-husband was finally served divorce papers that she filed in February 2023. We went to court in March 2023 and left court still married because she asked him if he felt like he needed to get a lawyer. At that time, he did not have one. In August 2023, I found out that my ex-husband had hired a lawyer the day before our next court appearance. Before that, I had not heard anything from Brignac. In November 2023, I met with another lawyer about my case because, at this point, I was desperate for information. She informed me that my ex-husband's attorney had filed something with the court, but she did not see what it was because it was not made available for public view. In February 2024, a complete year after the initial filing, I finally was able to get in contact with Brignac, and she wanted to drop my case after I paid her a retainer's fee of $2500 to represent me. I told her unless she was giving me my money back, she was going to finish what she started. The divorce did not become finalized until May 2024, and I found out a month prior that he (the ex-husband) had his lawyer file a divorce petition because I'm assuming they had not heard anything from her and were ready to finalize the divorce. Now I am currently in search of a new lawyer to represent me for the community property because she no longer wants to. If you are looking for a divorce lawyer do not hire Ms. Ericka Brignac to represent you. She does not know how to effectively communicate with her clients. She does not care about the case, and she is only in it to get your money. If I had known then what I know now, I could have saved myself thousands of dollars.
