When Susan became an executive coach, people asked, “How could you go from being a divorce lawyer to being a coach?” “The roles aren’t that different,” she replied.
Susan is a fierce advocate, focused on what matters most to our clients. She supports them to get clear on a vision for their future, to develop a plan consistent with their values, and empowers them to reach their goals. Giving support drives Susan in all she does.
As founder of the firm over 30 years ago, Susan is certified as a Family Law Mediator and a Collaborative Attorney. Her philosophy of pursuing satisfying negotiated settlements whenever possible is evident as she serves the firm in her “of counsel” role. With her years of experience as a tenacious litigator, Susan consults on the strategy of the firm’s most complex cases.
Together with managing partner Angela Dunne, Susan co-authored Divorce in Nebraska: The Legal Process, Your Rights, and What to Expect, 2d Edition (Addicus Publishing) to make the process of divorce easier. This book became a model for similar books across the country. Susan’s work also appears in Creighton Law Review, The Nebraska Lawyer, St. Louis Public Law Review, and The National Women Lawyers Journal.
Susan, along with Angela Dunne shares her insights in the firm’s weekly blog, Doing Divorce: A Thoughtful Discussion About Divorce. Susan’s role in empowering excellence for the Koenig|Dunne team and for making a difference in the lives of the firm’s clients is reflected in her TEDx Talk on Influence .
Fellow attorneys gave Susan an AV rating, identifying her as an attorney with high to preeminent legal ability. A former adjunct professor at Creighton University School of Law, Susan now teaches at the Nebraska State Bar AssociationLeadership Academy. She was awarded the Outstanding Contributor to Women and the Law Award from the Women and Law Section of the NSBA and was inducted as a Fellow in the Nebraska State Bar Foundation for her exemplary service to the law.
Susan serves her community beyond the legal profession. She serves as a Trustee for the Business Ethics Alliance and volunteers for Nebraska AIDS Project. She is a recipient of the Spirit of Women Foundation Award, the Sarpy County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) Power of One Award, and the Nebraska Association of Social Workers Citizen of the Year Award.
Susan is a summa cum laude graduate of Drake University and a received her Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts. She studied under the renowned master coach, Dr. Maria Nemeth, and is a graduate of the Academy for Coaching Excellence in Sacramento, California.
Susan would love to become a centenarian. To that end, she enjoys hosting parties for friends, reading (with a penchant for neuroscience), eating kale, and dancing.
