Angela Forss Schmit

Angela Forss Schmit is the founder of Schmit Law Firm. Angela practices business law, employment law, estate planning and adoptions. She is licensed to practice law in the states of Nebraska and Colorado.

As an experienced labor and employment attorney, Angela counsels and represents employers and human resource professionals navigating complex legal issues, including: employment policies and handbooks; collective bargaining and contract negotiation; performance management, personnel investigations, discipline and discharge; compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations; and representation in employment-related claims, such as charges of discrimination and retaliation, wage and hour violations, and prohibited practices litigation. Angela also conducts training for clients on a broad range of workplace topics to help industry leaders develop best practices.

As an experienced adoption attorney, Angela counsels and represents individuals and families in forming their forever families. Angela is committed to helping families in transition understand their legal rights and obligations related to petitions for adoption, consent to adoption and relinquishment of parental rights, and many more unique issues facing families. 

Prior to establishing Schmit Law Firm, Angela attained a diverse legal education and experiences. During law school, Angela interned for the Honorable Angela R. Arkin, Douglas County District Court Judge (Colorado). Following law school, she completed a prestigious judicial fellowship in the Arapahoe County District Court (Colorado) for the Honorable F. Stephen Collins and the Honorable Robert H. Russell, II. Angela began practicing law at a reputable family law firm in Denver, Colorado, specializing in complex financial cases involving businesses and constitutional law issues. Upon moving to Omaha, Nebraska, Angela joined a prominent general practice law firm in Sarpy County, Nebraska, where she served as labor and employment counsel for the City of Bellevue, the third largest city in the State of Nebraska; Angela also represented individuals and employers in labor relations and employment law matters, family law cases and adoptions, business transactions and disputes, real estate and landlord/tenant matters. Angela’s latest experience in the labor and employment group of a regional law firm inspired her to hang her own shingle where she can now provide personal attention to clients and deliver valuable results.
