Luke Andrew Hagedorn

Luke Hagedorn is an attorney focusing on renewable and traditional energy projects with the Kansas City-based law firm Polsinelli Shughart.  Luke also maintains an independing blog discussing renewable energy topics, the Renewable Energy Law Blog. 

Drawing upon his experience working on cutting-edge projects from around the country and his thorough understanding of the complex statutes and regulations that govern the energy industry, Luke is able to help his public utility and renewable energy clients provide safe, reliable and clean energy to their customers.

Wind Experience

Appealing to his life-long love of the outdoors, Luke has helped his renewable energy clients develop wind energy projects across the Midwest.  Luke is able to help wind project developers navigate the broad range of complex legal issues that arise at every stage of the project’s life, including entity formation, RFP responses, Renewable Energy Standard and Renewable Energy Credit requirements, public utility registration requirements, state and federal permitting requirements, interaction with farmland conservation programs, tax equity and other incentive programs, project and transmission siting and power purchase and interconnection agreements.

Solar Experience

Luke has helped solar developers address some of the unique issuesthat they face when planning, constructing, and operating a solar project in the United States and Canada.  For example, Luke is able to help clients with entity formation, RFP responses, public utility registration requirements, drafting and reviewing solar lease agreements, understanding and complying with Renewable Energy Standard and Renewable Energy Credit requirements, and drafting and reviewing power purchase and interconnection agreements.

Public Utility Experience

As a result of his experience assisting in the representation of a public utility in the largest rate case that the state of Kansas has seen in decades, Luke has become well-versed in the wide variety of unique legal issues faced by public utilities.  For example, Luke has helped his public utility clients address a number of complex legal issues related to state and federal regulatory compliance, including predetermination proceedings, rate-making proceedings, rate and tariff applications and general investigation/rulemaking proceedings.

Bio

A life-long student and voracious reader, Luke has always felt drawn to the practice of law.  Drawing on inspiration from lessons learned while earning his Eagle Scout award as a teenager, Luke feels that the honor of being admitted to the bar comes with a responsibility to help his clients find the most beneficial and ethical solutions to their unique problems.  To this end, he is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve public utilities and renewable energy developers that are on the cutting edge of the clean and green energy movements.

Luke’s passion for the law is only eclipsed by his passion for his high-school sweetheart (and now wife), Beth, and his beautiful daughter Brooksley.
