Brett Taylor Runyon

Brett joined the firm Ferree, Bunn et al. as an associate in 2013. He is admitted to practice in Kansas and Missouri state and federal Courts, as well as the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Brett received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 2008 (English & History). During his last semester Brett won the English Alternative Theatre’s annual “Final Four” one-act playwriting competition with his play Eli Touched, Whitney Ginned.

Before attending law school, Brett worked for a government-consulting firm, E-Fm Integrated, in Lawrence as a research associate drafting natural hazard mitigation plans for county governments in Kansas.

He graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 2013 with Dean’s Honors, finishing 16th in his class. While at Washburn Law, Brett received top papers in Legal Analysis, Research, & Writing II, Secured Transactions, and Law & Literature. His comment, ACCA Residual Clause: Strike Four? The Court’s Missed Opportunity to Create a Workable Residual Clause Violent Felony Test [Sykes v. United States, 131 S. Ct. 2267 (2011)], 51 WASHBURN L.J. 447 (2012), was published in Volume 51 of the Washburn Law Journal. He served as a Comments Editor for Volume 52.

His practice areas include: law enforcement and civil rights defense; real estate law (including residential and commercial transactions, leases, failure to disclose defects, as well as homes association restrictions and enforcement matters); business law (including organization of LLCs and corporations, start-ups, and employment issues); creditor’s rights and collections; federal and state appeals; and general litigation.
Brett and his wife, Andrea, live with their daughter, Kate, and dog, Captain, in Prairie Village, Kansas.
