I have known Melanie Haynes for nearly 20 years. It has been fun to watch her career unfold from a former law enforcement officer to practicing law. She is one of the brightest attorney’s I have had the privilege to know and I have worked with many of them. She is the total package. It was these reasons I had reached out to her a few years back when it came to my own divorce. I’m a male and I was married to an abusive woman. For anyone leaving an abusive relationship it is difficult to break the bond of control. I was confident Melanie could handle the complexities of such a case. Looking back, I remember one instance where I could have legally filed a PFA during my divorce due to the harassment and threat of further abuse. Melanie was patient and consulted with me about the pros and cons of such a decision. In the end, we agreed to hold off on the PFA but have it ready. I learned a valuable lesson. Sometimes even if you have the power of law on your side it is wise to slowly think through all legal decisions. A PFA would have made the divorce more complex than it needed to be and I am thankful for Melanie’s guidance. Finally, Melanie is extremely respected among all other divorce attorney’s. She is able to communicate with the other attorney involved in the case which assists in litigation. In the end, I was able to keep the assets that mattered most to me yet reach a fair deal with all parties. I often refer others who are strongly considering divorce to meet with Melanie. Melanie was very kind and patient upon initial consultation and clearly outlined services but did not push an agenda or retainer. My case presented some challenges with substance abuse and parenting time and Melanie proved to be very knowledgeable and creative in finding acceptable solutions. Melanie was a very good listener; she answered my very specific questions and helped me understand the process and timeline once the case was kicked off. She was very transparent if she thought something was unrealistic (a term or condition) and explained why. She offered other options to meet my qu...estions. My only complaint was response times - I would occasionally have to ping more than once for answers, and then setting up meeting times with my work schedule. I did appreciate that she used Zoom and everything didn't have to be in person.
