Jeffrey Lawrence Heiman

Mr. Heiman maintains a diverse legal practice. He has over 15 years in experience representing businesses whether large or small, established or just starting up. In that context, he assists with business formations, transactional matters, collections, and litigation. He is particularly adept at negotiating and drafting commercial lease agreements, residential rental agreements, real estate contracts, employment contracts, and a number of other contracts.

Additionally, he represents individuals in property damage, landlord tenant, breach of contract, and other litigation matters. He also works closely with individuals to create effective and affordable estate plans through the use of wills, trusts, living wills, powers of attorney, and probate avoidance devices.

Jeff also represents individuals in criminal and juvenile matters, where he regularly handles cases involving driving under the influence (DUI), possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, the unlawful use of a driver’s license (Fake ID), minors consuming, purchasing, or possessing alcohol (MIP/MIC), and other misdemeanor and traffic violations.

Mr. Heiman serves as the City Attorney for Lecompton, Kansas and the City Prosecutor for Eudora, Kansas.

Jeff graduated with the Highest Distinction from the University of Kansas School of Business in 1999 and earned his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2002. He was admitted to practice law in Kansas in 2002. From 2002 to 2004, Mr. Heiman served as a research attorney for the Honorable Lee A. Johnson, who then, was a Judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals. Prior to joining Stevens & Brand, L.L.P., Mr. Heiman worked as an Associate with the law firm Gilliland & Hayes, P.A.

Mr. Heiman is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, the Douglas County Bar Association and the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. He is actively involved in the Chamber’s Leadership Lawrence program. In addition, he has also served on the board of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as well as the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
