$400 Hard Lesson Learned

I went to see Mr Tinson to het information on bankruptcy options. I was going through cancer for a 2nd time and knew that I would not be able to handle all the medical and living expenses this time around. I was still paying creditors for treatment 12 years prior. While he was very informative, the... entire "free" consultation felt like a sham geared toward pressuring me into paying the $99 fee to begin filing. Even though I was not sure bankruptcy was the best option for me, after speaking with him I felt pressured railroaded into signing a contract and paid the initial $99 fee. I even received council from him to sell my employee stock to pay my nasi c bills and pay off the balance for legal fees. Mr. Tinsman advised me I should not file until after my cancer treatments were completed, which were not for another 6-10 months, yet I paid over $1,600, which they held onto for almost a year. The only calls/emails I received were from Mr. Tinsmans staff asking for my paperwork. Each time I would have to explain that, at the recommendation of Mr. Tinsman, I was waiting for all my medical issues to get resolved and could not fill out everything for them. When I started asking for a copy of my credit report I was either ignored, or told that I could view it when I came in for the final filling. After being put off for something I felt was a basic procedure, and with increasing feelings of unease, I decided to leave his firm. Then I started receiving several phone calls/emails from Mr. Tinsman and his staff pressuring me to stay, warning me of the dire circumstances of not filing, and basically feeling like I was being emotionally manipulated and bullied. When I finally put my foot down, I received hostile emails advising me he would be keeping almost 1/4 of the amount I had paid as "fair" for his services. What services?!? A handful of calls/emails asking me for my paperwork? One email exchange advising me to sell my employee stocks so I could pay rent, utilities and my legal fees? When I asked for a detailed invoice of what I was being charged for I was refused several times until I sent a formal email complaint to his partners, the BBB, and other legal protection agencies. I received a check for only a portion of my payments to his firm and a note to "never contact him again". Childish and unprofessional does not even begin to describe my experience with his firm. I do NOT recommend using Ted L. Tinsman or his firm for any legal services.

I am sorry that you did not find my services satisfactory. Please note that your case was open almost a year with our office. You agreed to delay the filing of your case after you advised us of your health situation (which was good advice if you were going to incur more medical debt that could not be added on later if the case was filed to soon). Our work involved following up with you as to your progressed and whether your treatment had concluded. We patiently explained that your credit report should not be pulled until you were ready to file in order to avoid incorrect information and additional costs to you. You did not need your credit report to complete your homework. Credit reports are inaccurate and I use the credit report along with the client going through their bills and collection notices to do that best job. You finally emailed us and said you were ready to proceed and then all of a sudden, you said we were fired and you did not want to go through with your case when I initially encourage you to see if the signing appointment could be something other than after 5 pm as you had originally requested. My office hours are from 8 am - 5pm and that is clearly marked. I try to work with clients if special needs arise, but we try to work within those hours. I am glad your cancer is gone, but I do not know why you became so demanding all of a sudden. I tried to work with you on various items, but you demanded your money back before we pulled the credit report- which again was not needed for you to complete your green paperwork. All clients are clearly entitled to the credit report we pull. You were refunded $1,444.64 of your fees and we kept $360.36 (I did originally say $400) and sent the specific detailed letter explaining every charge and expense incurred while your case was open. Sometimes, we just can't please everyone.
