I hope anyone I EVER divorce uses this Attny

I was married to this Attny’s sister from 2002-2020. SHE, (this Attny) insisted upon us having a Prenuptial Agreement, because they, the sisters, had some mutual assets which this Attny wanted to protect. When the sister opted for divorce, ilo an offered reconciliation, (after this Attorney ‘stron...gly’ encouraged her to engage in some unspeakable behavior) I was able to have non Attorney siblings, working on my behalf, in concert with my paid legal representation (Whom I wouldn’t consider using again for myself) negotiate a settlement which included her sister paying me monthly payments of $6500/month, for 60 months, plus, $179,456.23 in cash, up front, plus, releasing any claim to a rental property located on Mission Rd, in Prairie Village, Ks., directly across the street from Shawnee Mission East High School (the #1 rated High School in the S M School District), plus $558,642.50 from this Attnys’ sister’s retirement fund, and I kept my own Retirement Fund Account with another $450,000 plus/minus in it.

Could there be a worse lawyer in KC?!

I read the other negative reviews of Jayne and they are exactly what I experienced with her as my lawyer also. She's not only expensive but she was never prepared, always out of town or hard to reach. She was extremely confrontational with me and not with opposing attorneys. Yelling at me over the ph...one at times as well as her para Laura. This is after she has already collected tens of thousands of dollars from me. She let the opposing attorney have whatever they ask for often without question or contacting me if I was agreeable. She consistently forgot details of my case and sent emails to the court or between lawyers with incorrect details. When I pointed out said details she did not correct them but rather became confrontational with me. She never explained my options during the months long processes but was quick to send out her bill to me with inflated rates. A 30 minute phone call was billed as an hour and charged $300. She was not advocate for me. If anything she was extremely damaging to my case. Please do yourself a favor and find someone else that truly cares.

Jane gets the job done.

Let me lead with a caveat; if you need your attorney to hold your hand and lend a sympathetic ear while you vent on how horribly you have been treated by your ex, you will likely be happier with another choice. The ear will be lent, but with the tacit cynicism that comes with many years of experience... in family law. If however, you want a no BS attorney to guide you through the highly emotional divorce process process with a minimum of diversion, Jane and her highly competent assistant Laura are an excellent choice. Jane appeared to be knowledgeable, articulate, very direct and to the point. She is a good closer. Though we ended up settling, I would have been confident of her performance in a courtroom setting. As black and white as divorce rules and guidelines may appear, the further one gets into the process, one realizes there are many shades of grey in-between. Jane was able to keep me on track and explain to me what strategies might prove beneficial, and which were most likely a waste of time. And as we all (should) know, when dealing with attorneys, time is money. I thought her hourly billings were fair, and work was still done on my case when I overspent the retainer. Dealing with an attorney, like anyone else, is a two way street and if you treat them fair and honorably, you will likely get the same in return. That all said, hiring a divorce attorney isn't cheap. If that initial retainer is all you need, then you probably didn't need an attorney in the first place. If you and your spouse are able to communicate at all, establish as much common ground as possible between yourselves, then hire the attorneys to work out what can't be agreed on. Good luck to you.

Stay away from this one, she just doesn't care.

Jayne Pearman fails to explain options and gives very little, if any advice/counsel which proved especially fatal to the outcome of my case. She seems to forget or simply not care about the details of the case, perhaps confusing one client with another. Despite the fact that opposing counsel was ...extremely unprofessional via emails/phone and didn’t seem very knowledgeable in regards to family law, Jayne Pearman still managed to be bullishly outperformed and had no problems with catering to whatever the other side requested while they ignored Jayne’s requests in return. My savings depleted, I was forced to settle and because I couldn’t get a straight answer from Ms. Pearman, I had to consult with another family-law attorney on the details of the settlement. Perhaps if Jayne Pearman were as aggressive with opposing counsel as she is with collecting her fees, maybe she’d be a better attorney.

and this is why lawyers get a bad name, because of people like her

I should have gone off of my first impression when I met her she stated that she just go off the phone with one of her clients yelling at her. She is very confrontational and doesn't LISTEN to what you as a client is telling her. Everything is her way or the highway and she will rack up the hours do...ing what she wants and not what you are telling her to do as a client. As with every lawyer you have the right to question charges, when I questioned my charges she was very angry that I would even do that and sent very unprofessional emails. You would be better going unrepresented than having to deal with this person who should be banned from this profession.
