After being served papers for an 8 year old hospital bill I didn't know about, due to moving 8 years ago, I called to set up payment arrangements. They did not ask what I could afford, they demanded a set amount per month, regardless of the hardship that I told them it would place on my household, (...I'm a single mother of one). After struggling to make the "required" payments each month, I turned in the special consideration asking for a lower amount, as my wages were lower due to commissions, and more money was going out on bills than what was coming it. I was told I was "undeserving" of such modifications. They ended up making a judgement against me and garnishing my bank account, which put a hold on all funds, as well as a wage garnishment. Nothing like screwing someone that was attempting to pay what they could afford. Now, with my bank account frozen, and bounced check because of this, they have made my financial hardship even worse. When I called to inquire about their actions, I was told it was not their problem, as the lady on the other end laughed in the phone. Not very professional. They obviously don't care about financially ruining someone that has no control over the wages they earn, and tho I tried to keep up with what they thought I could afford I couldn't. All this has happened because they would not consider something within my ability to pay. It isn't pleasant being poor, and it is pathetic that a struggling individual can be made to feel like their efforts are not good enough.
