Natural gas utility received a report of an outside odor. Gas company technician responded, investigated, located no natural gas odor, but found gasoline spill in neighboring drive. Technician leaves ... the scene, and approximately 15 minutes later a house explodes two doors in the other direction from the house reporting the odor. During excavation, a rusted propane canister with a rupture is located in basement of home. Judge grants utility's motion for judgment on strict liability claim at the close of evidence. Jury doubts incident was natural gas related.

Thereafter, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia granted the Defendants' motion for summary affirmance.

Several utilities and their contractors were working on the Georgetown Project, an effort to prevent further manhole fires in the District of Columbia. Plaintiff, a community resident, sought to enjoi ... n the construction activities, and requested an expedited hearing on her request for a preliminary injunction. The Court, citing my brief on behalf of Flippo Construction, denied the plaintiff's request for an expedited hearing, which deflated plaintiff's enthusiasm for further litigation. My work on this case impressed Kevin Baldwin, counsel for co-defendant Washington Gas, which eventually led to Washington Gas offering me a position.
