Joshua Emile Richardson

Joshua E. Richardson’s practice focuses principally in the area of employee benefits, with particular emphasis upon benefit plan administration and design and multiemployer plan relations.  Josh’s practice areas include the pension and tax laws governing qualified retirement plans, deferred compensation arrangements and welfare benefit plans.

Josh assists clients in the creation, operation and correction of qualified retirement plans, welfare benefit plans and non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements.  He has represented plan sponsors and trustees before both the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor on issues ranging from plan qualification to fiduciary obligations.  Josh also assist in design and implementation of employee ownership strategies ranging from stock option and phantom stock plans to Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).

Josh assists clients in their dealings with multiemployer (union) pension and welfare plans.  In this context he works with employers in determining pension withdrawal liability exposure, negotiating pension and welfare benefits, ensuring Taft-Hartley compliance, and defending plan audits of employer payroll records.  Josh is well versed in pension withdrawal liability and the process by which an employer may appeal the assessment of liability by a multiemployer pension fund.
