Philip Sholtz

Philip Sholtz represents insurance carriers and employers across a range of industries in workers’ compensation matters, and he defends manufacturers of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products against complex liability actions. He also handles toxic tort and environmental litigation.

Phil brings to his practice exceptional trial proficiency and deep civil rights litigation experience from spending several years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office in St. Louis. There he took jury and bench trials to verdict in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and class action cases. Phil regularly handled claims arising under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, several of which were claims of alleged civil rights violations brought by plaintiffs in the penal system. He took two cases involving arrestees and five cases involving offenders, including a wrongful death claim, through trial. This experience also includes working on a complex civil rights class action brought on behalf of civilly committed sex offenders, and he handled several other civil rights class actions.

He has extensive appellate experience that includes authoring briefs for submission to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Eastern District of Missouri Court of Appeals.
