Michelle Feit Schwerin

I focus my practice on tax controversy and white collar defense, including securities investigations and litigation. I represent individuals and businesses in civil tax examinations, appeals and litigation before the U.S. Tax Court; criminal tax investigations and prosecutions; and all stages of securities investigations and litigation. I regularly work with government auditors, investigators and attorneys at the Internal Revenue Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice and the Missouri Department of Revenue. 

I have represented individuals and businesses in refund claims and litigation, preparer and promoter penalty investigations and tax collection matters. I have successfully obtained penalty abatement from the IRS on behalf of my clients. I have also represented clients under investigation by the SEC for issues including public reporting, disclosures and insider trading. 

In addition to tax and securities cases, I also work closely with Capes Sokol’s Appellate Practice group on state and federal appellate matters.

I am admitted to practice in both Missouri and Illinois, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the United States Tax Court.
