My philosophy as an attorney is simple. I work for you. Plain and simple. You are the Captain of this legal ship and I am its navigator. I cannot and I will not make your decisions for you. I can only inform you as to what your legal options are and provide you with my guidance and advice as to which option is best for your particular set of circumstances. Because at the end of the day, it is your life. Your family. Your career. Your decision. If I think that you're being unreasonable in the decisions that you've made or in the expectations that you have for your case, trust that I will be the first to let you know. So if you are looking for an aggressive, yet compassionate, experienced trial lawyer who will fight tirelessly on behalf of you or your loved one, contact me now for a free and confidential consultation.
After having spent most of 2004 and part of 2005 tromping around al-Anbar Province in Western Iraq, I decided that I had had enough. I was honorably discharged from the military in the summer of 2005 and, in the fall, began attending the Univeristy of North Florida, in Jacksonville, Florida, which is where I met my beautiful wife Staci, who is also an armed services veteran. Soon after graduation, I followed Staci here to her hometown of Springfield, Illinois, so that she could attend graduate school at Southern Illinois University. Not to be outdone, I decided to follow suit by attending Southern Illinois University's School of Law.
Full-disclosure, I never actually intended on practicing law. My plan was to obtain my law degree, move to Washington D.C. and become a bureaucrat. So following my first year of law school, I was fortunate enough to be awarded an internship with the United States Department of State, in Washington D.C., where I divided my time between the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Bureau of Political and Military Affairs. It was my "behind the scenes" tour of the United States Supreme Court, however, that was the highlight of my summer. It was one of those rare instances where every aspiration and dream that you've ever had immediately becomes irrelevant. And it was in that moment that I realized, I was going to be a trial attorney. So during my second year of law school, I switched gears and interned for both the Illinois Innocence Project and the Jackson County, Illinois State's Attorney's Office. I then spent my final semester of law school with the Missouri Public Defender's Office, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
When I was finally sworn in as an attorney, I was immediately hired-on as an assistant public defender with the Macon County, Illinois Public Defender's Office. I began my legal career defending individuals charged with misdemeanor traffic and DUI offenses, as well as representing mothers who had been indicated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Within six months, however, I was promoted and given a felony caseload, which is what I continued to do until my family relocated to Colorado in early 2015. While in Colorado, in between all of the mountain biking, camping, skiing and hiking, I worked as a legal analyst for the Colorado Department of State. Go Broncos. Then, in early 2017, we made a decision, as a family, to return to Central Illinois in order to be closer to family, which turned out to be the right decision. It has landed me where I am today and I couldn't be happier. I absolutely love what I do and would be honored to have the opportunity to guide you through whatever legal issues you are currently facing.
