I have represented debtors, creditors and trustees in thousands of cases, contested matters and adversary proceedings. I am one of the few attorneys certified by the American Board of Certification in both Consumer and Business Bankruptcy. That said, the Illinois bar does not recognize certifications. I am a frequent speaker on the topic of bankruptcy law and the author of books on the interplay between family and bankruptcy law the process of claims objection in bankruptcy.

I stumbled upon the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FRCA) while representing consumers during and after bankruptcy proceedings. Many credit reports contain errors that artificially lower the credit score and subject the consumer to higher credit costs. In many cases a simple letter to the four major credit bureaus (Trans Union, Experian, Equifax and Choicepoint) will solve the problems. In rare cases a lawsuit may be filed under Federal and state laws to correct mistakes.

The rise of securitization (the separation of ownership from servicing) created a situation similar to an Abbott and Costello routine. Many loan servicers cannot provide accurate information regarding the loan activity over the life of the loan. This inability makes it very difficult to prove a default.

I assist people who have problems with Federal, State, and Local taxing authorities. There are many realistic options and people should speak with attorney rather than those slick commercials on late night television that promise false miracles.
