Jacob N. Smallhorn

Smallhorn Law attorney, Jacob Smallhorn, is a Charleston, Illinois native who is happy to have returned to his hometown.  During his childhood in Charleston, his family lovingly cared for more than 300 foster children.  Jacob later attended the University of Illinois, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa while remaining on the dean’s list for eight consecutive semesters.

After receiving his undergraduate degree, Jacob began working as an in-district legislative liaison for the Illinois Speaker of the House. A representative encouraged Jacob to pursue a career in the law; which he also did at the University of Illinois. While working towards his Juris Doctor, Jacob received the CALI Award for Advanced Legal Research and a Pro Bono Notation for 300 hours of legal public service work while attending law school.

After graduation, Jacob worked at a Northern Illinois law firm and as legal counsel for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. While at IDNR, Jacob helped draft the final version of the Illinois Hydraulic Fracturing Rules and represented the Department in numerous large real estate transactions and claims. Jacob now focuses on Probate and Estate Planning, Business Litigation and Real Estate matters. He enjoys politics, woodworking, being a member of the Freemasons and spending time with his wife, Laura, and their two children; Evan, 6 and Morgan, 11.
