John Paul Schwulst

John Schwulst is a seasoned litigator, having tried cases from Antitrust to Zoning over the years.  Of particular note are seven Murder trials, numerous Child Custody trials and many civil trials in Contract, Property, Leasehold and Estate proceedings.  He has appeared before the Appellate and State Supreme Court on many occasions, with a successful resume of good outcomes in both the trial and Appellate Courts.

John believes in offering advice and assistance to the client in all aspects of the cases he handles, including counselling referrals and bringing in other professionals to assist the client in matters involving Business Valuations, Property Appraisals, and Farm Partitions.

Estate Planning is an essential part of John's practice, especially for cients with taxable estates or for elderly clients who want to minimize probate and the high cost of making transfers in health-related emergencies.  John does Guardianships for both disabled adults and for dependent children and both agency and private placement adoptions.  Family matters are a high priority and are treated with the utmost personal care and concern.

John is a fourth generation resident of McLean County.  His family first came to McLean County in the 1850's.  He is a long-time member of Eastview Christian Church and has taught classes there for years and is also the leader of his Church family Small Group.  He graduated from Bloomington High School and received his BA from the University of Florida as well as his JD Degree.  He was the head of the McLean County Public Defender program from 1988-1996.  He is a pilot and has also built some of McLean County's finest homes.  His interests are broad and include, in addition to designing and building homes, authoring both fiction and non-fiction books.
