Posted by Victoria | November 29, 2022 | Hired Attorney | Tax

Must have been working for the seller, she did nothing for me, she didn't do her job.

I bought a home in March of this year, and I hired Ms. Reynolds as my closing attorney. Before the closing there were issues to where I didn't want to purchase this home anymore. Examples, the seller kept holding up the closing not having work or other things he needed to do done on time. Ms. Reynold...s kept extending the contract on my behalf, even when I didn't want to, and when I asked her why the seller isn't asking for extensions since he is the one causing the delays, she said she had to. There was a mold, electrical, and plumbing issue. And tuckpointing needed. And also, there was supposed to be a complete roof replacement. The seller was holding up things and didn't fix anything. I didn't want to buy the house anymore. Ms. Reynolds told me I had to buy it, or the seller would sue me, and I wouldn't get my $1500 earnest money back. I told her I don't care about the earnest money, but she kept telling me I was going to get sued for thousands of dollars. We get to closing, the seller still hasn't done anything he was supposed to do, so I'm asking her now what because something needs to be done. The seller or his attorney wasn't there. She said the seller will close on another day. She said his attorney was on vacation out of the country and was rushing me to sign documents that wasn't explained to me because she had another closing to go to and didn't want to be late. I asked her about all the things that still needed to be done she just had the closing agent, which I later found out even though she was physically present at the closing that day, was a remote closer from somewhere else, and I only found that out when I called the title company to request all my closing documents that I didn't receive at closing, they wouldn't have them because a remote closer, even though she was there in person was used. But Ms. Reynolds told the closing agent to put $500 into the seller's escrow account and I asked her what that mean. She said he had so long after closing to do the work and if not done I would get the money for the work. I said $500 won't be enough and she said that he will pay the rest of the cost. Then the seller shows up at the end of the closing with documents with a seal on it and Ms. Reynolds steps out of the meeting room to privately talk to the seller. We get past the timeline and then she tells me now I have to sue to get the money it's in a trust and won't explain to me what she's talking about. Then she emails me something from his attorney saying they'll give me $500 if I don't sue anybody. Till today I have been having major plumbing issues and other work still need to be done. The whole first level is destroyed with mold and water damage. On top of that I got a take notice saying the taxes for 2014-2018 were sold in February of this year, prior to me buying the home in a scavenger sale and $52,000 something dollars has to be redeemed. I asked her what was going on with that and why didn't she know this before closing, she said that the seller and his attorney submitted open tax bills so she didn't there was a tax sell. I'm over here crying y'all and depressed, done spent all my savings, I don't have nothing else, the house is not fit to live in because of the mold and plumbing so soon, I'll be outdoors. I don't know what to do.
