In May of 2010 I needed help. I was the victim of a crime perpetrated by members of the Chicago Police Department. Being severely beaten and hospitalized, in an attempt to cover up this atrocity I was also falsely charged with having assaulted the very people that had brutalized me. My family and... I retained the services of Blair Dalton’s law firm, and as I watched them work I also watched Blair take a personal interest in the entire situation. For a very long time it felt as though only my family and I recognized the incident for what it was – an intensely gross injustice that has now become all too familiar to the masses, and now had materialized itself under unfortunate and deeply personal circumstances. She had never taken a civil case before. Being a successful defense attorney why would she? It had to be a risk for, and a position I can only assume most established criminal defense attorneys wouldn’t even bother putting themselves in. But she did. She spent what I could only imagine were countless hours out of her busy schedule to find me justice while simultaneously working on my defense. The only way to go after these officers was through a civil suit, and she worked with me pursuing this case with compassion, as well as a moving display of personal passion to find justice. Anyone that knows her is most likely aware of her impressive skill set, but it was her warmth and inspiring level of personal interest that gave me the courage to fight back against a system that most would probably disregard as a hopeless battle. When all was said and done, it wasn’t the jury’s verdict, or the expert testimony confirming my claims that gave me a sense of justice and affirmation, it was actually listening to her in a state of awe as she so passionately and eloquently retold my story in her closing statements bringing closure to a week long trial. I watched as the jury reacted to her, and for the first time felt a sense of hope. Just watching her actually gave me a profound sense of closure I was convinced I would never receive. Even if the jury hadn’t ruled in my favor, watching her powerful and moving closing statements, as well as an almost surreal ability to extract the truth from the defendants, would have been enough for me. My story finally came out. And better than I could have told it as I lack the training and natural ability she had to do so within such a demanding setting. When someone is truly gifted I think it speaks volumes to their character and who they are as a person as they decide how to use those gifts. Blair chose to use her’s in a charitable fashion, as a means of finding my family and I justice and closure from a dark and what was initially felt as an utterly hopeless predicament. We knew the truth. We had always known the truth. But she had a way of presenting the various facts and details that was so impressive I felt as though I was watching some sort of display meant for a movie. I’m confident anyone out there with dreams of becoming a lawyer, or even so much as making a difference in the world, would have found great inspiration and motivation in what I had witnessed during this trial and my countless hours spent with Blair. And as I sit here I truly wish I had a more compensatory way in which to express my gratitude towards her for all she has done to deliver closure and justice to myself and all my family and friends, but for now I will start with this simple review in hopes that it shines a much deserving light on her abilities, passion, and natural inclination towards justice and the service of those in need.
