George Thomas Dowd III

Chicago attorney George Dowd of G. Dowd Law LLC provides experienced legal counsel and subject-matter expert consulting services on a wide range of financial markets, technology, and general civil matters. The practice handles traditional securities and commodities (foreign exchange, futures, precious metals), cryptocurrency and digital assets, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and complex litigation. Serving clients throughout Illinois from his office at 181 W Madison St, 47th Floor in downtown Chicago.

Mr. Dowd holds a B.A. in Economics from the College of the Holy Cross and a J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois.

He served on the Board of Directors of the Global Digital Asset & Cryptocurrency Association in 2020–2021 and is the primary author of the IICLE® handbook *Digital Assets, Cryptocurrencies, and Blockchain* (2022). Mr. Dowd has testified as an expert witness in proceedings before the National Futures Association, FINRA, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the Federal Court of Australia.

He has lectured or presented at the People’s Bank of China (Shanghai), DePaul University Graduate School of Business, the National Futures Association, and the Chicago Bar Association’s Futures and Derivatives Committee. He has appeared frequently on CNBC, Bloomberg TV, and Fox Business Network.

Prior to founding G. Dowd Law LLC, Mr. Dowd was Head of the Chicago Foreign Exchange Desk and Head of Foreign Exchange Sales for the Americas at Société Générale (and predecessor firms Fimat and Newedge) from 2007–2015. Earlier in his career he established the Spectrum Currency Program at Spectrum Asset Management and held senior foreign exchange roles at JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, and Credit Suisse.

Mr. Dowd played varsity men’s ice hockey at Holy Cross, attended the U.S. Olympic Training Center Skeleton Development Camp, is an accomplished offshore sailor, and has completed the Boston, New York City, and Chicago marathons. He lives in Winnetka, Illinois with his three sons.
