I’m an attorney and the founder of IDA Legal, a legal practice based in Mokena, Illinois. IDA Legal takes its name from the initials of my three children, currently ages 9, 7, and 5. I also have two chocolate lab children (10 and 1) and a beautiful, strong wife that is the cornerstone of everything I do.

In practice I like to:

(1) Help individuals and families plan for their future — this may include, but is not limited to, helping with and drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives, and helping individuals and families follow through on implementing those items just mentioned;
(2) Help individuals create and manage organizations to follow their dreams; and
(3) Help individuals to continue managing their companies for success – whether that be from a purely legal perspective or a business perspective.

Before founding IDA Legal, I spent more than a decade as in-house counsel in healthcare, where precision with sensitive information and careful attention to detail are not optional. This shaped IDA Legal and my current practice.

I began at Conifer Health Solutions, advising its physician services, revenue cycle, and value-based care operations and chairing its corporate compliance committee. I went on to serve as Senior Legal Counsel and Privacy Officer at Convey Health Solutions, and most recently as Deputy General Counsel and Interim General Counsel of SimplePractice, a practice-management tool for mental health practitioners, where I served and advised the company’s c-suite and board. Over the years, I negotiated hundreds of contracts, led acquisitions, managed litigation, and built the compliance programs that protected patients’ health information (and more!).

This experience shaped how I practice estate planning, an area that I’ve been providing guidance on, and drafting documents in, for many years; working closely with family, friends, and acquittances. In estate planning, plans most often fail not in the drafting but in the details: an account that was never re-titled, a beneficiary form left out of date, a document a bank will not accept, or even a rushed lawyer that is not dedicated to your document and you and your family’s well-being. My practice is built around plain-language explanations, flat fees quoted in writing before work begins, and follow-through after signing. With clients’ permission, I will also work alongside financial advisors and accountants so that documents, account titles, and beneficiary designations all say the same thing.

I am also the founder of Staid Health, an early-stage company building practice management software for mental health professionals. A pet project I like to work on in my very limited free time.
