Thomas Mark Gurewitz

Hi, I've been asked to write a short profile of my legal experience. I've been an attorney for 38 years; starting out at legal aid and establishing my own practice in 1978. I worked part-time as a prosecutor for the City of Waukegan for eight years. I've had the privilege of being the president of the Lake County Bar Association in the year 2000 and the chairman of the Family Law Committee of the Lake County Bar Association for the past 25 years. I've served three terms on the Family Law section council of the Illinois State Bar Association and I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers having served in several capacities including the Board of Managers and the admissions committee. I am a member of the American Arbitration Association and a court-appointed mediator for visitation issues in the State's Attorney child support call.    

I am qualified and on the court approved lists as a Lake County mediator, children’s representative and Guardian Ad Litem.

             I am listed as a Leading Lawyer and named as a Super Lawyer for the last five years. That said, I recognize that, as an experienced litigator and mediator, the huge expense of going to court and the need for reasonable negotiations. I believe that I provide compassionate and professional representation in all areas of family law.
