CONVICTED FELON FOR HIRE

Do Your Research Before Hiring Gary N. Foley Gary N. Foley’s public record is not merely concerning. It is disqualifying. Avvo rates him 4.3 out of 10, placing him in its “Concern” category, below “Average” and just above “Caution.” That rating reflects publicly available information, including... disciplinary history and bar records. The most serious fact is not a bad review. Foley pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud affecting a financial institution. According to the Illinois State Bar Association’s disciplinary summary, the case involved a purported short-sale transaction concerning property owned by his then-wife. Foley prepared closing documents, concealed that he was effectively the buyer, concealed the true source of the purchase funds, and later prepared a false explanation regarding the earnest money after the transaction was questioned. The Illinois Supreme Court suspended him from practicing law for one year and until he completed the supervised-release conditions arising from the federal case. His later record is equally disturbing. In In re Marriage of Hurtado, the Illinois Appellate Court described Foley’s briefs as “borderline incomprehensible” and found that they violated multiple Illinois Supreme Court Rules. The court concluded that the appeal had been pursued in bad faith, had “no arguable merit,” and was used to harass the opposing party and delay resolution. After reviewing a record exceeding 5,000 pages, the court described Foley as “quarrelsome, unprofessional, and downright uncivil.” The court found that he misrepresented facts in the record, cited incorrect portions of it, failed to accurately explain the trial court’s rulings, attacked the integrity of judges, and failed to meaningfully address the decisions he was asking the appellate court to overturn. Sanctions were imposed against him personally. That alone should make any prospective client walk away. Recent client reviews add another layer. A June 2026 reviewer called his advice bad and warned people to research him before hiring him. Another accused him of using his legal position to take clients’ money and talking down to people. A February 2026 reviewer called him rude, disrespectful, and incapable of handling matters beyond very simple bankruptcy work. Those reviews describe bad advice, incompetence, condescension, disrespect, and financial exploitation. They closely mirror the public record of dishonesty, professional discipline, defective legal work, misrepresentations, bad-faith litigation, and judicial sanctions. The record establishes that Foley: • Pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud affecting a financial institution. • Concealed his financial interest and the true source of funds. • Prepared a false explanation after the transaction was questioned. • Was suspended from practicing law by the Illinois Supreme Court. • Submitted briefs described as borderline incomprehensible. • Misrepresented facts and cited the record inaccurately. • Violated multiple Illinois Supreme Court Rules. • Pursued an appeal with no arguable merit to harass and delay. • Was described as quarrelsome, unprofessional, and uncivil. • Was personally sanctioned. • Has recent reviews accusing him of bad advice, incompetence, disrespect, condescension, and taking clients’ money. This is not a technical error, an isolated lapse, or one bitter client. It is a documented pattern of fraud, suspension, judicial condemnation, sanctions, and repeated complaints about competence and conduct. I would not hire Gary N. Foley, recommend him, or trust him with any matter involving money, property, family, or legal rights. Read the disciplinary record. Read In re Marriage of Hurtado. Read the recent reviews. His public record speaks for itself, and it is damning.

Stay away!

These other reviews HAVE to be fake! Gary is a terrible lawyer and an even worse “man”. He may be able to handle a very simple bankruptcy case but beyond simple or bankruptcy he can’t do anything. He is rude and disrespectful.

Exceptional Attorney and Great Guy!

Gary has been representing me, my family, and friends for over 20 years in a variety of business and personal matters, including litigation, real estate, landlord/tenant, estate planning, collections, contract issues, employment disputes, family law, and traffic issues related to my large multi-state... construction business. Gary and his staff have never lost a case for us!

Suspension Until Compliance With Condition(S) issued in IL, 2016

updated on 03/14/2018

A suspension until compliance with conditions reflects a determination that the lawyer has engaged in misconduct and that the misconduct warrants an interruption of the lawyer's authority to practice law during the suspension period, which is a fixed period of time identified in the Supreme Court's order and until the lawyer complies with condition(s) imposed by the Court. The lawyer is not authorized to practice law during the period of the suspension.
