Benjamin James David

Attorney Benjamin David earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Northern Illinois University in 2005 and served as an English and Speech-and-Debate teacher at Elgin High School in Elgin, Illinois from 2006 to 2007. Ben earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 2011. While in law school, Ben was selected to work as an extern judicial clerk in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Western Division, in Rockford, Illinois, under the Honorable P. Michael Mahoney, a prolific federal magistrate judge in the Northern District.

After law school, Ben proudly served as an Assistant Public Defender at the Winnebago County Public Defender's Office in Rockford, Illinois. There, he protected the legal rights of indigent clients in a broad array of traffic, misdemeanor, and felony cases, earning invaluable experience as a tough litigator, successfully conducting innumerable jury trials, bench trials, and other courtroom hearings.

In 2012, Ben had the honor of returning to the United States District Court in Rockford to serve as Judge Mahoney's final judicial law clerk until the judge's retirement in 2014. Throughout his time in federal court, Ben worked hands-on with hundreds of civil and criminal cases from a unique perspective: behind the bench.

In the following years, Ben gained experience as a civil litigator in personal injury cases from both sides of the isle, as plaintiffs' counsel and defense counsel, conducting countless hearings and trials or negotiating fair settlements to effectively achieve results in the best interests of his clients.

Ben has joined the law firm of Lavin & Parisi to focus on the practice of family law. Throughout his experience as an attorney and litigator he values his relationships with his clients and will use his knowledge, skills, and experience to advise and support each while fighting for their rights under the law in their most trying times with understanding and compassion.
