Not a good closer

Steve Shaykin is one of the worst real estate attorneys I have ever dealt with. We were closing on a home in early September and the electrical power to the home was turned off by the home seller in the process of our final walkthrough of the home. We were unable to verify that all appliances were op...erating on the walkthrough, which occurred the morning of us closing on the home that afternoon due to lack of Com Ed being shut off. We went to his office that afternoon and told him about the incomplete walkthrough due to the lack of power in the home and he stated that he would ask for a $3k addendum if anything was wrong. Once we signed the papers and had power restored to our new home to verify everything was okay. We discovered holes in the walls from the seller moving out and the dishwasher was broken. We immediately reported these discovery to Steve the same day and he merely shrugged off our concerns. Talk about breaking our hearts on our very first home we purchased, it appeared that he never had our interest at heart. We had to hire a contractor to repair and paint the holes in walls, then we called a professional to look at the broken dishwasher(on our dime). It appeared that he only wanted to sell us this home as to not waste his time by being in his office that afternoon. He just wanted to collect his $650 fee, and make sure that the lender got his check. I would never advise any home buyer to utilize his services if you are purchasing a home. If I only knew his true intention, I would have never purchased this home. He doesn't have his clients interest at heart, to him it's all about selling, collecting his retainer fee and not caring about his clients who he is suppose to represent. He doesn't take our calls and he has his paralegals e-mail us and state there is nothing he or they can do about these issues and the $3k addendum was returned to the home seller with no questions asked. Please be careful he only seems to have his colleagues interest at heart.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education

  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
