Douglas George Fosheim

I graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego, Californaia in May of 1979..   After my first year of law school I was ranked in the top 10% of my class.   In law school I was active in appellate advocacy and served on the board charged with administering the appellate advocacy program at California Western   I was a member if the Judicial Council at the law school and graduated from law school with the "Dean's Award" which is given to members of the top 25% of the graduating class.   After graduating I moved back to Huron, South Dakota and began practicing law in the firm in which I am currently practicing--Fosheim Haberstick & Hutchinson.   I have attended Continuing Legal Education programs sponsored by the Dakota Bar Association since my admission to the bar in 1979.   In 1986 I was elected to the South Dakota House of Representaives and served 3 terms, opting to retire to participate more fully with my wife in raising of our sons.   I have been recognized by the South Dakota Trial Lawers Assocaion for outstanding service to the legal system as a legislator.  In that capacity I was also awarded as the  "Conservation Legislator of the Year" by the South Dakota Wildlife Federation.   During my legislative service i was appointed and served on the South Dakota Corrections Commision.  For 4 years I served as a member of the South Dakota State Fair Advisory Commission.  I have also served as a board member of the Mid-Dakota Rual Water Systerm, Inc. which provides Missouri River Water to Central South Dakota to farms, ranchs and towns.  As a member of the State Bar I chaired the Public Information Committee, served on the Continuing Legal Education Committee for the bar and am currently am member of the South Dakota State Bar Ethics Committee.   I  served as a part-time Deputy States Attorney in the early eighties and as City Attorney for the City of Huron from 1995-2003. I  am a member of the Huron Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Huron Development Corporation.  Currently, I am engaged in the general practice of law in my Huron, South Dakota   I am a partime public defender and prefer performing legal srvices in the  in the areas of wills and trusts, real estate, probate and business law.  I was married to Ardelle Tschakert in 1981 and together we have rasied two sons.   I currently have a peer review rating of "Excellent" (bv) with Martindale-Hubbell.
