Since 2012, I have been practicing in-house for finance and investment firm Newport Partners. Newport was formed in 1998 as a tax credit syndication firm providing equity investments to institutional investors. As a syndicator of tax credits, Newport Partners has placed over $1 billion in equity to institutional investors and equity financing to over 172 multifamily developments throughout the country. Newport Partners has expanded to develop and manage multifamily projects, first in California through Domus Development and subsequently, in Minnesota.  

In addition to development and financing of real estate, Newport Partners has expanded to provide tax credit financing, development, and manufacturing of high quality US-made solar photovoltaic modules in Minnesota. NP Solar Development, affiliate of Newport, develops and finances solar installations in Minnesota. 

My main areas of practice include oversight of contracts and other legal and financial matters involved in the development, financing, and installation of solar projects. NP Solar utilizes Made in MN Silicon Energy solar modules or other locally made products of equivalent quality for our projects whenever possible. 

As with any business or other organization, relationships are of the utmost importance. To that end, I go to great lengths to get to know people at the countless organizations we interact with on a professional level and maintain strong relationships.

I draft, review, analyze, and negotiate contracts and manage other documentation as required for tax equity and debt financing, development, and installation of solar projects. I also provide clients, project partners, and other parties guidance on legal and financial aspects of project development. Finally, I manage projects from origination through completion and support our system operations, maintenance, and asset management teams.

Recently, I expanded into real estate tax credit financing and development. I will be providing legal services to our finance and development teams to ensure the delivery of successful real estate projects.
