Michael Emanuel Gerould

Michael Gerould is a well-respected attorney with vast experience across the spectrum of business, employment law and civil rights issues issues.

A resourceful litigator, Michael uses whatever means necessary to assist clients in navigating the nuances of the law to accomplish their objectives. Understanding that the best defense is an active, well-planned offense, he challenges his clients to be proactive and forward-thinking to enable them to curtail issues before they arise.  He encourages clients to build a strong foundation through the development and implementation of effective policies and procedures, and active, ongoing training programs.

Through his practical, proactive approach, Michael counsels and advises clients on various topics, including: hiring, disciplining and terminating employees; creating and maintaining personnel files; navigating complaints of harassment and discrimination; reductions in force; handling employee misconduct and leaves of absence; engaging in “interactive process” and providing “reasonable accommodations” for employees; drafting effective policies for employee handbooks; and implementing anti-harassment and discrimination training programs that work.

Michael has written and lectured on diversity, disability and religious accommodation, discrimination and harassment training, whistleblower law and many other subjects.  He has also drafted guides and manuals for use by employers in training their managers to create and maintain a work-environment free of violence.  Michael is passionate about guiding employers on the practical aspects of the law – to provide them with the tools necessary to cultivate a culture in the workplace that is not only pleasant and enjoyable, but is also effective in increasing productivity and shielding employers from potential liability.

A native of Detroit, Michigan and a passionate fan of all sports Detroit, Michael lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two daughters.  Michael’s travels have taken him all over the world – from Reykjavik to Shanghai – but his favorite place to get away is Minnesota’s own BWCA.
