Joel Van Nurden is a lifelong Minnesotan. He grew up in Rochester and moved to Minneapolis to attend law school. After graduating and practicing with a local law firm, Joel founded Van Nurden Law to provide clients with top quality, affordable representation for litigation matters in Minnesota.
Joel’s practice covers a broad range of legal disputes that arise for individuals and businesses. He focuses primarily on real estate litigation, trust and estate litigation, and business disputes. He handles other select litigation matters for clients on a case-by-case basis.
Joel’s interest in law goes back as far as he remembers, but his path to becoming a lawyer is unique. Beginning in high school in Rochester, he worked for a number of years as a radio disc jockey and on-air personality. During that time, Joel went back to school for paralegal training. His first position in the legal profession was as a paralegal in a Rochester law firm.
While working as a paralegal for litigating attorneys, Joel realized that he wanted to represent clients himself, so he enrolled in law school. He worked as a law clerk at a small Minneapolis insurance defense firm through most of law school and as an associate at the firm after passing the bar. Joel then decided to open his own firm to provide broad-based litigation services to clients.
Joel’s approach to practice includes providing personalized service to each client. He builds a close, personal working relationship with the client by maintaining ongoing communication. His approachable manner puts clients at ease.
Joel understands that disputes, disagreements, and litigation matters often create high levels of emotion and stress. His goals include minimizing the stress and providing a strong foundation of support for the client. Joel’s personalized client focus and his exceptional litigation skill explain why clients and other attorneys turn to Joel when disputes and disagreements arise.
Joel and his wife Anna live in Golden Valley with their cherished cats Monty and Mishka. When Joel isn’t working, he relaxes by reading and spending time with Anna. They enjoy traveling together to experience and explore new places.

A Quick End to my Predicament
I contacted Joel to consult him and help me solve an annoying problem with a certain repair company known as RepairKing, who have been hounding me for my money for a couple of years already. What led to an end to this matter is him simply writing a letter to explain where they were wrong, as well as ...
"Joel Van Nurden has very strong oral advocacy and writing skills, studies and knows the law, thinks creatively outside of the box and presents his clients’ claims, defenses and arguments effectively. I have jointly represented clients with Joel in a number of matters over the years at all court levels and have conferred together with Joel on many other legal issues on a regular basis. I highly recommend Joel as a trial and appellate lawyer."
"Joel and I were opposing counsel in a civil litigation matter. Soon after Joel was retained, the parties reached a mutually agreeable settlement that ended the litigation and avoided a trial. Joel is a very professional and effective lawyer."
"Mr. Van Nurden and I were opposing counsel on two recent protracted and very adversarial cases. In spite of the acrimony between our clients, Mr. Van Nurden always conducted himself professionally and was respectful to me and my clients, yet at the same time provided zealous advocacy for his clients."
