When people are not able to make their own good, responsible medical, personal and financial decisions, (most often because they have a disability, disease such as dementia or have been incapacitated in an accident), I help by getting a substitute decision maker appointed, or developing a less restrictive strategy that will make sure they are safe and protected. I am passionate about helping elderly and disabled people get the help that they need.
I was born and raised in Minnesota. I went to Omaha, Nebraska for college, earning a business degree from Creighton University in 1993. I then returned home for law school, earning a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota School of Law in 1996. After law school my first job in the legal field was in Buffalo, Minnesota, clerking for Wright County District Court Judge Bruce R. Douglas. When my clerkship ended, I began practicing law in Buffalo, Minnesota at Johnson, Larson, Peterson & Matt, P.A., becoming a shareholder after four years. I have 22+ years of courtroom experience, in a wide variety of areas, including civil litigation, family law, probate, guardianships and conservatorships, personal injury, business transactions and estate planning. My law practice is now almost exclusively guardianship and conservatorship work.
My passion, outside of the law, is long distance running. Running is my "me time". I've completed 17 marathons and am likely training for the next one now!

If your loved one is unable to make and communicate responsible personal decisions, or unable to manage his or her assets, then a guardianship or conservatorship may be necessary. The whole "guardianship process" may seem foreign to you. If you need more detailed information, see our Minnesota Guardianship and Conservatorship Law blog at blog.mattlegal.com
Cindi works with clients to develop strategies that are less restrictive than guardianships, such as health care directives and powers of attorney.
Cindi has successfully sued and defended hundreds of individuals and entities in Minnesota Courts. She knows the best legal strategies to move a case forward to the best possible resolution. She works with our clients to determine the most appropriate strategy for their particular needs.
Cindi has handled numerous probate cases and can help you deal with probating the estate of your loved one after their death.

Relationship: Worked together on matter
Cindi Spence is a fantastic attorney who is committed to her clients and gets excellent results. She is very knowledgeable in the areas of guardianship / conservatorship law in Minnesota. She is highly skilled in this area and provides excellent representation. I routinely refer her clients because I have such a high regard for her personally as well as for her skills as an attorney. She and I have also worked together on a matter, and she did an excellent job representing her clients. She has an intelligent, strategic mind and is great in both litigation and transactional work. I highly recommend Cindi for anyone looking for an attorney in these areas.
