Travis Keil is a Minnesota criminal defense attorney and the founder of Keil Defense in Chanhassen. He represents people across the Twin Cities metro and greater Minnesota facing the full range of criminal charges, and he has concentrated on criminal defense since beginning law school in 2008. He was admitted to practice in 2011.
His work spans DWI and driver's-license matters, domestic assault and other violent-crime allegations, drug and weapons offenses, theft and fraud, criminal sexual conduct, and serious felonies, along with juvenile cases, probation violations, expungements, and protection-order defense. He pays particular attention to matters involving fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), mental health, and substance use, where a client's history often shapes both the defense and the result.
Before opening his own practice, Travis clerked at the Second, Seventh, and Tenth District Public Defender offices and trained under an experienced Minnesota criminal defense attorney. He is a member of the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL) and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and has volunteered with the Minnesota Justice Foundation. He earned his B.A., cum laude, from St. Cloud State University and his J.D. from Hamline University School of Law, and he holds an M.A. from the University of East Anglia in England.
In building a defense, Travis works with investigators and qualified experts, and he uses modern technology and AI tools to run his practice efficiently while keeping every client decision under his own judgment. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
Travis's work and commentary have been featured in national and local media, including ABC's 20/20 and KSTP's The Lost Souls, and he has been quoted in the Star Tribune.
Clients reach Travis directly. Calls and texts are answered 24/7, and most matters are handled on a flat fee set in advance, so clients know their cost from the outset.

Poor Advocacy.

Absolutely Great Lawyer with Excellent Communication
I hired Travis for a minor criminal case, and he was absolutely great. He never once hesitated to get on the phone with me and explain my multiple options. This review is laughable. Whoever wrote this hides behind “anonymity” as they can’t come forward and make their identity known as they are well aware these allegations are meritless. The majority of the review makes absolutely no sense and is nothing but an incoherent rambling. If you are going to write a review, please have the dignity to identify yourself and provide specific information to support your allegations.
"Since the day I met Mr. Keil, I have known him to be a dedicated, hardworking, and zealous advocate. He has illustrated an ability to handle extremely complicated criminal trials. I would entrust him with any type of criminal defense matter."
"I endorse this lawyer. Travis is a fantastic attorney and one who knows how to get the job done. His knowledge and dedication are unparalleled. He understands criminal law, and knows the ins and outs of practicing law while making sure that his client's rights are protected. I cannot recommend Travis enough -- he is a terrific lawyer and one you should contact immediately if you need criminal representation."
"I highly recommend Mr. Keil for any criminal legal matter. I have watched him use his superior legal knowledge in tandem with his impressive people skills to win acquittal for his client. If every defense attorney displayed his level of strategic and tactical creativity, the people of Minnesota would be very well served."
"Mr. Keil’s tenacity in the courtroom is unparalleled in the legal community. I have witnessed him fight for his clients and obtain great results. We have worked together on several criminal matters, including Attempted 1st Degree Premeditated Murder. His legal acumen has helped numerous clients walk away with dismissals, acquittals, and plea agreements that other attorneys would be hard pressed to obtain. I have been in the legal profession for over 20 years and have witnessed very few attorneys who possess the legal skills that Mr. Keil has. He is highly recommended."
