Nicholas Baker leads Baker Law LLC, a practice built around a single focus: helping companies govern their use of artificial intelligence without slowing down their ability to use it. Combining a JD with an MBA, Baker approaches AI governance less as a legal compliance checkbox and more as an operational discipline — one that has to work for engineering teams, executives, and boards alike, not just satisfy a regulator on paper.

His work centers on building governance programs that assess risk at the enterprise, model, and individual use-case level, then translate that risk assessment into concrete controls, documented evidence, and defensible processes. Because the regulatory landscape for AI is fragmented and still forming, each engagement is mapped to the specific rules or standards that actually apply — which may include the NIST AI RMF, the EU AI Act, GDPR, or state laws such as New York's Local Law 144 — rather than applying a generic template regardless of the client's industry or footprint.

Baker also handles the contract work that AI governance programs depend on: NDAs and mutual NDAs to protect proprietary models and data during vendor and partner discussions, and MSAs governing ongoing relationships with AI vendors and enterprise clients.
