Worked as the private mediator to cooperatively divorce a couple who had been married for 40 years. Their multi-million dollar estate had local and international real estate, local retirement, internat ... ional pensions, and a wide variety of investments ranging from IRAs and retirement accounts, to brokerage accounts and mutual funds. In collaboration with a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, assisted spouses in valuing and dividing their many assets equitably while minimizing tax consequences. Using strategic tax planning that incorporated required minimum IRA distributions, capital gains avoidance, and pre-divorce asset division, we were able to save thousands of dollars in taxes and free up cash flow to both spouses. Though the spouses had no minor children, we successfully addressed legal and parenting issues arising from their adult child's particular special needs. From first meeting to submitting the paperwork, this complex divorce was resolved in less than five months and for $4000, including fees paid to the financial planner.

Husband, concerned with keeping fees down, hired an attorney on an hourly basis to prepare his uncontested divorce. Wife hired Erika Englund as her consulting attorney. From that point, the divorce was completed within thirty days. In the process, it was discovered that Husband had been improperly advised to take action that would trigger tax consequences and incur additional legal fees, both of which were avoided. Husband's total attorney fees were approximately four times higher than the amount paid by Wife in order resolve the divorce immediately, avoid tax consequences, and eliminate the need for additional legal fees.
