Baldwin v. State, 253 Ga. 721 (325 S.E.2d 128) (1985)
Jan 25, 1985OUTCOME: Guilty but Mentally Ill on both counts of murder; convictions affirmed on appeal.
I served as lead counsel in the February 1984 double homicide trial of Mark Anthony Baldwin in DeKalb County Superior Court. Baldwin was indicted for the malice murder by handgun of his estranged wife, ... who worked at the counter of a local donut shop, as well as a DeKalb County Fire Department Lieutenant, who was a bystander on a coffee break. Baldwin's defense was insanity, with multiple defense psychiatric experts testifying that Baldwin met both of Georgia's statutory legal tests for insanity (M'Naughten and Durham). The trial lasted six days, beginning on February 13, 1984 and ending with a jury verdict on February 19, 1984. I also handled Baldwin's appeal in the Supreme Court of Georgia, which was decided in January 1985.
