Roberta Walker, an executive director, was bicycling on southbound North Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia, which is located in Encinitas, California. The roadway did not have a separate bike lane but had ... a lane shared by both bicyclists and motorist. The roadway was marked with shared-lane markings called sharrows, which indicated drivers that bicyclist are allowed to use a fully vehicle lane. When Walker was at an intersection, she was struck behind from a pickup truck that was also traveling south of the highway. Walker sustained injuries to her head, face, chest, pelvis, and shoulder. Walker was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Walker brought an action against the City of Encinitas, San Diego County, and the State of California alleging defendants were liable for the dangerous condition of public property.
