Jarriet Harris v Lauren O'Connor 2025L-2162 Tried April 7-9, 2026
Apr 09, 2026OUTCOME: Verdict: $140,189
Pltf M-29 was operating a motorized scooter southbound on the city's Lakefront Bike Trail when he was struck by deft's eastbound vehicle as she exited Lake Shore Drive and turned onto Foster Avenue on ... May 8, 2024. Pltf, a financial advisor, contended the impact caused him to sustain a bulging lumbar disc (1-2 mm), requiring medical treatment ($52,572 medical expenses, $33,588 LT). Pltf was subsequently involved in another motor vehicle collision in September 2024 which temporarily aggravated his symptoms. However, treating physicians testified that pltf's injury originated from the May accident and remained unchanged on objective imaging. The defense argued pltf encountered a solid white line and a turned stop sign as he approached the intersection, and therefore had a duty to stop and yield to oncoming traffic, but he failed to do so. The defense further contended pltf entered the intersection and struck deft's turning vehicle. The defense also disputed causation of pltf's injury, maintaining the subsequent incident was either the cause or a contributing factor to his ongoing condition. Defense counsel suggested the jury award nothing.
